As someone whos lived through, and with, having a close family member murdered, I thought this documentary was rather good. Yes, I think Herzog was trying to send an anti capital punishment message. As if I care. What I really enjoyed was knowing how it ends. crashdummy is absolutely right. Its something you cant know unless you live through and with it. The quality of the video is very good. I give it an 8 of 10, for the biased opinion. RIP Michael Perry my ass! Peace and strength to the suffering families.

Werner Herzog again proves hes probably the best maker of documentaries of this present time. One thing that really jumped out at me, though, and its the only flaw I found with this doc: when he has the fing audacity to preach the "wrongness" of capital punishment to Lisa Stotler-Balloun. That was an absolutely ridiculous moment in the film; and you can see where she kind of laughs off the "F you MoFo!" she almost threw down on him for being such an idiot. But I think she realized it was just a blunder and carried on. That was his only mistake with the entire film, though...and it was a "human" mistake. As a life-long resident of the Great State of Texas, and a proponent of the death penalty, I highly recommend BOTH sides of the fence regarding this issue watch this documentary--its a very well made film. And all of you against the death penalty--especially those of you living lives untouched by violence--they should make YOU go out and fish out the dead body of a murder victim; make YOU place them on the coroners table; and make YOU stand right there and lift the sheet and notify their family that they are the victims of a murder... She (Lisa Stotler) said it perfectly right there in the film: "Some people just dont deserve to live."

My first issue with this is that Werner Herzog is directing a documentary on capital punishment in America... really? Herzog is from Germany and Germany doesnt have the capitol punishment law. This documentary starts off fine explaining the crime that took place but takes a turn into a more personal side of both victim and the convicted. I felt too much time was spent in showing the personal lives of the criminals, almost as if Herzog was trying to sway the viewers into supporting against capital punishment. Now I will not share with you my views of capital punishment because its not relevant... I will point out some facts that Herzog doesnt seem to acknowledge. Prisons in the U.S are big business... 8 million adults currently imprisoned and growing. The U.S has more people in prison than any other country in the world to date. In Texas (where this crime took place) the average cost per year to house a prisoner is 45K. For 40 years the citizens of the state of Texas will support a murderer of 3 innocent people with their hard earned tax dollars... but wait, thats not all Texans... you also get to support his marriage AND his illegally impregnated wife and unborn child. Ahhh now thats justice!

Really need a different Host, who can speak properly. NO REMORSE SHOWN by eighter of them and they were old enough to know what they were doin and should take responsibility 4 their actions instead of playin the blame game. Dont buy that Perry acted alone.
