A fight on Everest? It seemed incredible. But in 2013 news channels around the world reported an ugly brawl at 21,000ft as European climbers fled a mob of angry Sherpas. In 1953, New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay had reached the summit in a spirit of co-operation and brave optimism. Now climbers and Sherpas were trading insults - even blows. What had happened to the happy, smiling Sherpas and their dedication in getting foreigners to the top of the mountain they hold so sacred? Determined to explore what was going on, the filmmakers set out to make a film of the 2014 Everest climbing season, from the Sherpas' point of view. Instead, they captured a tragedy that would change Everest forever. At 6. It was the worst tragedy in the history of Everest...

This Doc focuses on the relations between the Sherpa, the foreign guide community and the government of Nepal. Its very informative, and I highly recommend it. It surprisingly showed that even after 60 plus years, how fragile and delicate that alliance really was all along. Its a combination culture and religions clash, parallel with a monetary one. And as with all such human endeavor, could only be brought to light to the rest of the world, in the wake of tragedy. The closest corollary to the situation here, is the union movement as it started more than a century ago in America. And the word union wasnt even mentioned in this movie. That inequity, between the Sherpa, and the rest of the climbing community is staggering in its scope. Another revelation that you get from this Doc, is that Everest itself, and gaining its summit, never was the most important thing about the Everest experience. But rather the motivations of the people involved. That has never been addressed in any other mountain climbing movie I have ever seen, to this extent. If you were looking for a movie about Everest, you will be disappointed. Its more important than that.
